HMCC COVID-19 Safety Precautions

(UPDATED WEDNESDAY, 30-09-2020)

Dear Church family,

We want to give you all an update on our church’s response to the latest social distancing guidelines. We know it has been difficult for many of us to navigate the new normal not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, socially, and even spiritually. As the whole world continues to grapple with the effects of the pandemic, we remain committed to supporting the global efforts in preventing the spread of the virus and caring for the holistic health of our members and the community. After the recent update on exemption for religious gatherings (50% venue capacity according to the Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance – Cap. 599), as well as discussion and prayer with the executive team and pastoral staff, we have decided to resume in-person worship gatherings in a safe manner. As such, we will continue to adopt the following safety precaution and social distancing measures.

If you do not feel comfortable coming to worship with us in person, please do not feel pressured to come. We will provide a live stream option so you can stay connected with us from home. If you do plan to come in person, we will continue to abide by the social distancing guidelines by asking those coming in to wear masks, have their temperature taken, hands sanitized at the entrance, enforcing wiping of chairs and door handles, and removing snacks and beverages at the coffee corner. Again, if you’re feeling unwell or have been in recent contact with someone quarantined or who has COVID-19, we ask you to please stay home out of love and for the safety of others. Below is the detailed list of precautions.

Staying Home When on Compulsory Quarantine or Displaying COVID-19 Symptoms

If you are under compulsory quarantine (due to travel, close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 carrier, etc.), we ask that you refrain from attending in-person church activities until the end of your quarantine. If you, or any member of your household, is exhibiting any of the common COVID-19 symptoms (fever, malaise, dry cough, shortness of breath, etc), we ask that you seek medical assistance immediately, stay home, and fully recover before joining Sunday Celebration or any other church activities in-person.

Temperature Check

Before entering the venue, we will perform a temperature check on each person. Anyone who records a body temperature of above 37.5ºC when screened should return home, seek medical advice, and join us online instead.

Face Masks

As a church, we are asking all participants to wear a face mask while at church gatherings. If you do not have access to a mask, you can ask one of the greeters at the door to provide you with one for the day. If anyone is preaching or leading the congregation in worship and prayer, they may remove their face masks during that time.

Hygiene and Sanitization

The greeters will sanitize every participant at the door with hand sanitizer at the entrance of the gathering venue. We will be regularly disinfecting the frequently touched areas of our gathering venues, including chairs, door handles, tables, etc. We will encourage verbal greetings and ask that the congregation refrain from physical contact. No eating or drinking would be allowed except for taking communion during church gatherings.

We will not be passing around the offering basket. Offering boxes will be placed at designated locations in the sanctuary for members to go and give during the offering time of our gatherings. Also, when the time comes for us to observe the Lord’s Communion, we will be using individually-packaged communion sets.

Seating Arrangements

We will be spacing out our seats to create more physical distance between one another.

Building Blocks

The children’s church ministry (Building Blocks) will resume classes during Sunday Celebration and will take extra precautions to make sure that the children are safe. If your children are not feeling well, have had contact with anyone quarantined or who has contracted COVID-19, or have any of the COVID-19 related symptoms, we ask that you and your children stay home and join us online instead out of love for others in our community.

LIFE Group Gatherings

For our LIFE Group gatherings, we will provide online methods of participation and ask that LIFE Groups continue to follow the social distancing guidelines for any in person gatherings. Please contact the leader of each LIFE Group for more information about online arrangements. For those who may be meeting together in person, please practice good hygiene, wear masks as often as possible, use hand-sanitisers, and wash hands frequently. Anyone who feels unwell with flu-like or fever symptoms, has had recent contact with anyone who has flu-like or fever symptoms, under quarantine, or recent travel history, is highly advised to stay home, take necessary precautions, seek medical assistance if applicable, and inform their leaders of their situation.

We will continue updating these guidelines as we make adjustments based on the most up-to-date government announcements and other social distancing measures. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at hongkong@hmcc.net

Please continue to pray for the city in these tumultuous times, for healing for the sick, for comfort for the weary, and for trust in God’s greater plan for Hong Kong.

Psalm 28:7 (ESV)
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.

With Love,
HMCC Pastoral Staff and Executive Team
