Announcement from HMCC Regarding COVID-19

(UPDATED 07-07-2020)

Dear Church family,

We want to give you all the latest update about our church community. It has been a tough season globally as the COVID-19 situation has challenged us to pivot our lifestyles in different ways, both in Hong Kong and all around the world. This pandemic is unprecedented for many, and as a church we endeavoured to support the global efforts in preventing the spread of the virus. We praise God for the technology that enabled us to not cease gathering in various ways in the past 2 months.

We are aware that the Hong Kong government has loosened its restrictions on religious gatherings, which allows churches to reopen at 80% of venue capacity. Therefore, we [as the pastoral staff and the Executive Team] have decided:

Given our plans to reopen our church for in-person gatherings, we will continue to adopt the following safety precaution and social distancing measures:

Staying Home When on Compulsory Quarantine or Displaying COVID-19 Symptoms

If you are under compulsory quarantine (due to travel, close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 carrier, etc.), we ask that you refrain from attending in-person church activities until the end of your quarantine. If you, or any member of your household, is exhibiting any of the common COVID-19 symptoms (fever, malaise, dry cough, shortness of breath), we ask that you seek medical assistance immediately, stay home, and fully recover before joining Sunday Celebration or any other church-wide activities in-person.

Temperature Check

Before entering the venue, we will perform a temperature check on each person. Anyone who records a body temperature of above 37.5ÂșC when screened should return home and join us online instead.

Face Masks

As a church, we are asking all participants to wear a face mask while at church gatherings. If you do not have access to a mask, you can ask one of the greeters at the door to provide you with one for the day. If anyone is preaching or leading the congregation in worship and prayer, they may remove their face masks during that time.

Hygiene and Sanitization

The greeters will sanitize every participant at the door with hand sanitizer at the entrance of the gathering venue. We will be regularly disinfecting the frequently touched areas of our gathering venues, including chairs, door handles, tables, etc. We will encourage verbal greetings and ask that the congregation refrain from physical contact. No eating or drinking would be allowed except for taking communion during church gatherings.

We will not be passing around the offering basket. An offering box will be placed at a designated location in the sanctuary for members to go and give during the offering time of our gatherings. Also, when the time comes for us to observe the Lord’s Communion, we will be using individually-packaged communion sets.

Seating Arrangements

We will be spacing out our seats to create more physical distance between one another.

We will continue updating these guidelines as we make adjustments based on the most up-to-date government announcements and other social distancing measures.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at hongkong@hmcc.net

With Love,
HMCC Pastoral Staff and Executive Team
